Meet Annie Alexander Through Her Inspiring Story
As part of the prize, winners will receive Annie Alexander’s Amazing Adventure: An American Fossil Expedition in Nevada, a children’s book that celebrates women in science and honors the remarkable achievements of Annie Alexander.
Published on the occasion of the exhibition Deep Time: Sea Dragons of Nevada, the book takes readers on Alexander’s journey from her home in California to the desert mountains of Nevada in search of fossils. Through vibrant illustrations by Nevada-based artist Kate O’Hara and engaging storytelling by Ann M. Wolfe, readers discover the plants and animals of the desert environment, ichthyosaur fossil discoveries, and the scientific lessons of extinction and climate change.
The book also features a brief biography of Alexander, designed to inspire young readers and serve as a valuable teaching tool for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) educators.
