Nevada State Museum program features “Beastly Encounters” Jan. 9

Puppet stories, animal stamp crafts and studying the signs of scat are all on the menu from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, as the Nevada State Museum, Carson City, celebrates “Beastly Encounters and Coyote Stories,” an educational and fun program for all ages.

The January installment of the museum’s Family Fun Saturdays program is designed to teach awareness of animal behavior and habitats in Nevada. Also covered is the role of animals in American Indian storytelling and culture. Volunteers and staff will provide a presentation and be available to answer questions. Families who visit the Discovery Lab will learn how black bears, mountain lions and mule deer adapt to their environments, what they eat and even what they leave behind. In the craft center, guests can make cards or bookmarks using what they have learned. Advance registration is not required and guests are welcome to stay the whole time.

Admission is free for museum members and ages 17 and younger. Adult admission is $8.
