State Museum celebrates bones and more with National Fossil Day Oct. 14, Saturday programs

National Fossil Day is Oct. 14 but the Nevada State Museum celebrates all month with special Saturday children’s programs from 1-5 p.m. throughout October. Fun family activities focused on paleontology begin in the museum’s classroom.

In previous years, students helped the museum commemorate the day by naming the museum’s sloth, Icthyosaur and mammoth. For 2015, visitors can explore fossils from the Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument recently returned to Nevada and now on view.

Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Monday, at 309 S. Valley View Blvd. Admission is $9.95 which includes access to the Las Vegas Springs Preserve. For more information, contact the museum at (702) 486-5205.
